Important Notice! – Local Government Reorganisation
You may be aware that the Government intends to create unitary local authorities in areas, such as Hampshire, where a two-tier system of local government exists. It is the Government’s expectation that new unitary councils will come into operation from April 2028.
The proposals mean that all councils in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight area, including Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County will be disestablished and their functions transferred to new unitary councils covering the area. In addition, the Government has said that the existing unitary city councils of Southampton and Portsmouth will also be disestablished. As a result, it is likely that a larger new council, that covers a greater Southampton area, will be established. The Parish Council intends to build a case that says that Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams shouldn’t be included in a council that includes Southampton. We will be talking to you more and seeking your views about this over forthcoming months.
